Before turning right along the short path, there are memorials to Corporal Joe Willie Shaw ( who died from gassing having fought at Loos) and immediately next door is a headstone to the Berry family who lost 2 sons, Gunner John (who died in Armentier and is buried near Sangatte) & Kenneth of whom we haven't yet found about his war time service), in France. Janet Berry was a headmistress of the girls' section of a local primary school. For many years this headstone was propped up by scaffolding.
Nearby there is a memorial to Mark Dawson, a Bradford mill owner & churchwarden for many years. He was Mayor of Bradford for 2 years (1869 - 1871).
A newly restored memorial includes a dedication to Private Milton Aspinall a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artllery.
Beyond here to the North is the new burial ground with burials dating from the 1970s to the present day. Part of this area drains badly, possibly why there is a bog willow tree here.
Till Carr Cottage was built in 1634 on a site to the West of the church and was moved to its current site around the time that the churchyard was enlarged. It was funded by Evan Charles Sutherland Walker and his wife, the plaque high up on the wall dates this to 1866. The cottage had been for the curate. You can see a sundial on the cottage's south wall.
